CFIA cracks down on misleading terminology for chicken wings

(Jan. 28/13) Some restaurants offering chicken may unknowingly misrepresent menu items. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has launched an awareness program prior to enforcing legislation that prohibits the advertising and labelling of food products in a misleading or deceptive manner.

CFIA has prepared information on the proper and legal use of the terms “boneless wings” and “all meat wings,” as well as the numerical representation of chicken wings.

CFIA will begin enforcing legislation in the fall to give restaurants time to make changes to any inaccurate menu terminology and to reprint menus.
