St. John’s reverses restrictive drive-through decision

(Jun. 11/12) Quick-service restaurant operators in St. John’s are breathing a sigh of relief after City Council reversed its decision to extend the minimum buffering distance to 15 metres for drive-throughs abutting residential zones. Restaurant operators were shocked when Planning Committee members rejected recommendations by development officials who had worked closely with industry to develop comprehensive drive-through guidelines. In early June, Council voted on a fair compromise that reduced the buffer to 10 metres.
