Making moves on red tape


(Oct. 17/12) CRFA attended a media event in Halifax, where Minister of National Revenue Gail Shea announced further steps in the federal government’s plan to reduce red tape for businesses.

The plan
As part of its red tape reduction efforts, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has created a dedicated team responsible for co-ordinating and addressing small business issues. The team is to ensure the CRA approaches service improvements with a stronger focus on cutting red tape for small businesses.

The CRA has already implemented changes to improve services for business, including:

The event was held at Old Triangle Irish Alehouse (a CRFA member), which highlighted the importance of reducing red tape for our industry. CRFA was also quoted extensively in the media.

We just surveyed all the restaurant owners in HRM on what are their small business issues and No. 1 is red tape and No. 2 is taxation. Anything they can do to reduce red tape is positive.
