Note: This support program is only available to restaurants in British Columbia. CRFA is encouraging other jurisdictions to follow the province’s lead in supporting small businesses for Informed Dining.
(Dec. 12/12) What is Informed Dining?
Informed Dining is a voluntary nutrition information program for restaurants under the Healthy Families BC initiative. Participating restaurants provide their guests with nutrition information at or before the point of purchase for all standard menu items – enabling customers to make well-informed choices.
Who developed it?
The program was developed by Province of British Columbia in collaboration with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association (BCRFA) and the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association (CRFA). Informed Dining meets the principles developed by CRFA for a national framework for the provision of nutrition information.
Until now, Informed Dining was only available to restaurant outlets in British Columbia. CRFA is supporting an expansion of the program for restaurants in B.C. that also have outlets across Canada that wish to participate.
Why should you participate?
By participating in Informed Dining, your restaurant will respond to growing consumer interest in nutrition and be seen as a leader in customer service. Restaurants can use the recognized “Informed Dining” logo which lets customers know they can access nutrition information in a consistent format to help them make informed choices.
As an added bonus, your restaurant will be recognized in government promotions (in B.C.) and be promoted by CRFA in the rest of Canada.
